Bachelor’s Regalia

Gown: Plain black or institutional color with straight, open sleeves.

 

Hood: Simple design, usually lined with institution colors and trimmed based on faculty.

 

Cap: Standard mortarboard with tassel (often black or based on institution color).

Master’s Regalia

Gown: More elaborate than bachelor’s, with oblong sleeves that are closed at the end.

 

Hood: Longer and more detailed, with additional trimming and lining.

 

Cap: Mortarboard or soft cap (depending on institution or tradition).

Doctoral Regalia

Gown: Highest quality, often with velvet panels and sleeve bars in faculty colors.

 

Hood: Longest and most decorative, fully lined and trimmed.

 

Cap: Typically a tam (round, soft velvet cap) rather than a mortarboard.
